Enel Green Power Spain, Endesa's renewable energy subsidiary, will begin construction of the largest solar photovoltaic power plant with battery storage in the Canary Islands on open land within the Barranco de Tirajana power plant in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
With an investment of approximately €11,5 million and an installed capacity of 9,3 MW, the plant will supply the average consumption of more than 3.000 households, equivalent to approximately 7.500 people.
The El Matorral solar plant will occupy an area of eight hectares and will feature 15.000 state-of-the-art photovoltaic modules. It is expected to be fully operational by early 2026, a key date for advancing the island's energy transition.
When operational, El Matorral will save 1.874,5 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to planting nearly 94.000 trees or a 74-hectare forest.
The project has received a €5,69 million grant from the IDAE (National Institute of Statistics and Census) as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union through the Next Generation funds.
With this initiative, Endesa Canarias strengthens its commitment to a sustainable and renewable energy model in the Canary Islands, joining other Spanish regions where the company already has more than 600 MW of installed renewable capacity.
