The facility, which will be located in the parking lot of the Municipal Offices of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, has a budget of 2,8 million euros.

The project is part of the collaboration agreement recently signed with the City Council to promote renewable energy in anthropized spaces.

The Gran Canaria Island Council, through the Island Energy Council (CIEGC), has put out to tender the construction of the photovoltaic solar installation for the San Fernando de Maspalomas parking lot. With a base budget of €2.862.703, it will be the island institution's second-largest installation on canopies after the one in Arinaga. The project is part of the recently signed collaboration agreement with the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council to promote renewable energy in anthropized spaces.

The facility, which will be located in the Municipal Offices parking lot, will have a total peak power of 816,48 kWp and 700 kW nominal, consisting of 1.512 modules of 540 Wp each and seven 7 kW inverters. The estimated annual production is 100 kWh, equivalent to the average consumption of nearly 1.393 homes.

In environmental terms, it will prevent the annual emission of 796 tons of CO₂, equivalent to planting nearly 50.000 trees or traveling more than 10,7 million kilometers in electric vehicles powered by renewable energy. It will also incorporate a 1.290 kWh storage system, capable of storing 33,8% of daily production, thus optimizing the use of the energy generated.

Raúl García Brink, Councilor for Environment, Climate, Energy, and Knowledge of the Gran Canaria Island Council, emphasized that "this project is the result of coordinated work with the island's municipalities, with whom we have been signing agreements that are gradually becoming a tangible reality in the form of specific projects and initiatives."

In this regard, García Brink emphasized that "it's not just about moving from plans to action, but also about deepening the path we're already on toward energy transition, and doing so in a way that's aligned with the Ecoísla model: a cleaner, more sustainable, and energy-self-sufficient territory."

The project combines the Gran Canaria Island Council's own funds and resources from the NextGenerationEU program, managed by the Canary Islands Government, aimed at promoting the implementation of renewable energy in anthropized areas. This same financing scheme has been used for other strategic projects, such as the large solar installation at the Arinaga Industrial Park.

With this initiative, the Island Energy Council strengthens its strategy of deploying projects that combine sustainability, efficiency, and local participation, positioning Gran Canaria as a benchmark in the use of renewable energy.

The tender has already been published on the Public Sector Procurement Platform, and interested companies may submit their bids until September 19, 2025. All information is available in the relevant tender notice, published on the Public Sector Procurement Platform, in the CIEGC contractor profile.
