A man who was nearly drowned was transported by helicopter from Montaña Arena Beach, southern Gran Canaria.

A swimmer was rescued this Wednesday at Montaña Arena Beach in San Bartolomé de Tirajana after suffering symptoms of partial drowning. The victim was transported by medical helicopter from the Canary Islands Emergency Service to the Gran Canaria University Hospital.

A man had to be urgently evacuated this Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from Playa Montaña Arena, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, after experiencing moderate symptoms of incomplete drowning. The alert was received at 12:46 p.m., when the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Safety Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 was informed that the victim required medical assistance after being rescued from the sea by other bathers.

 

At the scene, two people identifying themselves as medical personnel provided initial care before the arrival of emergency teams. The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) medical helicopter landed in the area to assess and stabilize the patient, who was subsequently transferred to the helipad of the Gran Canaria University Hospital for hospital treatment.

The operation involved lifeguards from the Beach Rescue Service and members of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service, as well as local police officers, who collaborated in assistance and coordination efforts with SUC personnel.
