The management of Emicela, Binter Canarias, Barceló Canarias, RIU Hotels, Meliá Hotels, Livvo Hotels, TUI, and Gesplan, among others, have responded to the emergency call from the Cape Verde Consulate in the islands due to the disaster caused by the rains of the last week.
The Cape Verdean diaspora, especially in the Canary Islands, France, Luxembourg, Portugal, and the United States, has launched urgent crowdfunding campaigns. Tens of thousands of euros have already been raised to purchase food, water, hygiene products, and emergency supplies.
Canarian solidarity with Cape Verde has been swiftly activated following the devastating rains that hit the island of Saint Vincent, where homes, businesses, and livelihoods were wiped out in a matter of hours. The Cape Verde Consul in the Canary Islands, Juan Cárdenes, issued an urgent appeal to public authorities, businesses, and citizens: "Cape Verde now needs everyone's solidarity. By joining hands, we can help rebuild the lives of those who have lost everything."
Under the slogan "Djunta Mon"—which means "Let's join hands"—the Consulate in the Canary Islands is coordinating the reception of donations in collaboration with the Cape Verde Red Cross. Until Friday, August 22, those interested can donate clothing and footwear in good condition, school supplies such as backpacks and notebooks, personal hygiene kits (soap, toothbrushes, or towels), and non-perishable food items such as rice, beans, or canned goods. The Consulate's headquarters, located at 10 Padre Claret Street in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, will be open from 09:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m.
In parallel, the Cape Verdean government is preparing a package of measures to boost the reconstruction of São Vicente. This Saturday, the Minister of Investment Promotion and Business Development, Eurico Monteiro, will detail incentives and financial support for the most affected sectors, with the goal of reactivating professional and business activity as quickly as possible.
For those who prefer to contribute financially, the Cape Verde Red Cross has set up accounts at banks such as Banco Comercial do Atlântico, Caja de Ahorros, Banco Cabo-Verdiano de Negócios, and Banco Africano de Investimentos. IBANs and SWIFT codes have been distributed to facilitate international transfers, allowing the Canary Islands' solidarity to reach those most in need directly and effectively.
