Moda Calada, the parade of designer garments that use traditional Ingenio embroidery in their production, returns this year in all its splendor in an event with an audience, next Sunday the 19th at 20:00 p.m. at the municipal wrestling ground. El Chiquero' - a reference in the world of wrestling on all the Islands and celebrating its 75th anniversary - with the participation of four designers: Kilian Betancor and Inmanol Vizcaíno from Gran Canaria; Oswaldo Machín from Lanzarote and Marc Philguer from Tenerife, who will fill the catwalk with color and transparencies with pieces inspired by botany, seascapes or countryside.
It is worth remembering that the draft is a tradition today but it was the economic support of the Village of Ingenuity. Almost all the families in this municipality have some copy of this beautiful craft because in an economic context of extreme poverty in which it was known as the triangle of misery, the women, with their hard work as a cutter, managed to gain fame and reputation. which allowed them to sell their works throughout the island of Gran Canaria, exporting them to the European continent. This activity, associated with the domestic sphere, provided essential income to the rural economy of the modest families of the town.
Today, with the support of the Department of Industry of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, which in recent years has contributed 42.000 euros in subsidies to the Association of Caladoras of Villa de Ingenio for the dissemination of the Traditional Culture of Gran Canaria, the stall It is still alive and with the Moda Calada catwalk its integration into current pieces is sought.
In this regard, the counselor highlighted the added value of having carried out the collections in the context of the current crisis and after the suspension of the last edition, and thanked the designers for continuing to commit to the use of this technique, "since they contribute to that an important legacy that demands to be contemporary and dynamic does not disappear.”
The Mayor of Villa de Ingenio, Ana Hernández, stated for her part that this initiative "aims to disseminate this craft and take the step towards commercialization, since from the City Council we are aware that they need more support than ever."
Giovanni Hernández, director of the catwalk, highlighted that both the guests and the technical team will attend with a COVID certificate, which guarantees the safety of the event.
Fauna, the sea or flowers and their aroma inspire the five collections
This year it is the designers Marc Philguer, Imanol Vizcaíno, Kilian Santana, Kilian Bentacor and Oswaldo Machín who incorporate embroidery into their designs.
The first presents 'Silvestre', a collection inspired by the botany, fauna and flora of the landscapes and rural elements of the new continent. Through it, the designer captures all the elements that Mother Nature offers us, and complements it with small organic details such as vegetable raffias or jute, along with the prominence, of course, of the Canary Islands draft.
Vizcaíno, for his part, is inspired by the sea and the sky, reflected in his collection through turquoise tones and the use of volumes that simulate water.
Kilian Santana presents his first mixed collection with 'Aire', where the color and movement of the garments and transparency are the main elements to configure garments that, in addition to artisanal openwork, use embroidery and rhinestones to achieve a touch of elegance. .
In the Betancor collection, Canarian openwork also has absolute prominence since its designs are in fact based on traditional costumes from the beginning of the last century, updating them to the 21st century. Colonial-style suits with ruffles and ruffles that integrate the delicacy of openwork in airy, light-toned fabrics to enhance femininity.
Finally, Oswaldo Machín presents the bridal fashion collection 'Esencia' inspired by flowers and the aroma they give off, where off-white predominates with sequin and crystal embellishments and where openwork, present in all designs, is mixed with lace on fabrics such as crepe georgette , plain chiffons and sunburst pleats.
