July ended with promise, but Maspalomas will see August pass by. Gran Canaria welcomed 295.518 passengers in July, 7,18% more than last year. It seems like a joy until you look at where they're coming from, according to figures from the Gran Canaria Tourist Board, released at the end of August 2025.
The classic markets are causing a headache: Norway lost 326 tourists (-2,14%), Ireland lost 584 (-5,65%), and France barely increased by 292 (+2,71%)… accumulating an annual drop of -8,77% with only 63.399 visitors. Sweden had a timid July (+13,44%), but the total fell to 123.781 (-9,04%). Switzerland lost 239 tourists (-4,78%), Austria 188 (+6,53%) but with a negative cumulative figure of -5,46%. Luxembourg said goodbye: 1.464 in July (-8,84%) and 12.301 accumulated (-11,57%). Finland didn't even deign to deign in July and its cumulative figure fell -5,44%. Morocco also limped: -175 tourists (-2,55%).
Come on, Maspalomas's historic clubs are dragging their feet. Every red number is an empty bar, a taxi running out of fare, and a waiter staring out at the sea without ordering anything.
Those who are saving the summer a bit are trying to make up for it: the United Kingdom added 94.961 (+5,04%) and 598.517 total (+1,87%), Germany 53.262 (+6,53%) and 567.664 (+9,61%). The Netherlands increased by 28.988 (+16,13%) and 170.116 total (+7,97%). Italy shined: 10.577 in July (+24,11%) and 95.596 total (+30,64%). Poland and Portugal grew slowly, and "other countries" increased by 3.913 in July (+54,45%) and 73.497 total (+41,09%).
But beware, the joys don't cover the losses. France, Sweden, Ireland, Switzerland, and Luxembourg are real black holes for Maspalomas. And it's no joke: they're empty beds, free tables, cocktails left at the bar... and money that vanishes like a summer breeze.
The annual total is 2.371.117 (+4,77%). It sounds nice, but it depends on a few countries, and that's playing with fire here. Maspalomas needs to diversify, move quickly. Because if one more market falls, everything will collapse like a sandcastle.
The harsh reality: July is bright in global figures, but Maspalomas is frowning. Tourists are not arriving, hotels are sighing, and a summer that threatens to be cut short. Here, summer doesn't last forever... and the numbers confirm it.
