Alejandro Marichal: “We pay tribute to a woman who has always given without expecting anything in return, and her reward has been the affection of her people who love and admire her.”

The patron saint festivities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana concluded this Sunday with an emotional tribute to Clara Mejías Rodríguez, known to all as Cuqui , an exemplary resident of Tunte and a symbol of dedication, generosity and joy in the municipality.

The event, held in Tunte Square and hosted by the Canarian comedian Juanka , included the screening of a biographical video that traced her life: from her childhood in a large family, her education in Ciudad Jardín, her passion for music and the bandurria, to building a family that has been the center of her life alongside her husband, Antonio Guerra. The video also highlighted her role in the community: her dedication to cooking for doctors and neighbors, her spirit of solidarity, her warmth, and her tireless willingness to help.

As a final touch, the First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal , presented Cuqui with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the City Council, recognizing "her generosity, joy and dedication, an example of neighborliness and affection towards our town of Tunte."

In his remarks, Marichal emphasized that the tribute was being paid “ to an irreplaceable woman who has made service a way of life. Cuqui has always given without expecting anything in return, and her reward has been the affection of her people who love and admire her. With her, we have learned that true community leadership is born from the heart and from simple gestures that make life better for everyone.”

The evening concluded with a lively and musical finale featuring comedian Matías Alonso and the musical group Trío Bellagio . With this tribute, the Department of Festivals and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council brought the 2025 patron saint festivities to a close, highlighting individuals like Cuqui who embody the best of the municipality's identity: warmth, solidarity, and love for others.
