Alejandro Marichal: "The goal is to improve job placement and social inclusion in our municipality."
Dimas Sarmiento: "We are laying the foundation for a flexible and effective social care model."
This morning, at the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Social Services Department, Councilor Dimas Sarmiento and First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal held a supervisory meeting with the heads of the area's technical team. The meeting allowed them to evaluate the work carried out in the first half of 2025 and outline new areas for improvement with the aim of strengthening the care provided to the municipality's most vulnerable groups.
The semiannual review showed that, between January and June 2025, municipal Social Services served a total of 4.225 households, of which 800 were newly registered, accessing available resources for the first time. During this same period, nearly 1.900 social benefits were processed, consolidating the system's response capacity to the increase in demand. These data demonstrate comprehensive care in key areas such as social and health guidance, management of rental assistance, and support in job placement processes.
In more detail, the records show that the San Fernando UTS (Uts) has had the highest volume of activity, with 1.594 families served and 701 benefits processed. It is followed by the Tablero UTS (Uts) with 939 families and 647 benefits, and the Castillo UTS (Uts) with 388 families and 146 benefits. These figures are complemented by the home care services (SAD), which managed 188 benefits for 366 families, and the psychological intervention service, with 132 new registrations during the first six months. Overall, the municipal service network has demonstrated its ability to provide close and professional support to those most in need.
In the words of the responsible councilors, "our main objective is to continue making progress in job placement, housing assistance, and social inclusion, improving the opportunities for our neighbors in vulnerable situations," emphasized Alejandro Marichal. For his part, Councilor Dimas Sarmiento emphasized that "we are laying the foundations for a flexible and effective social care model that will allow for faster responses to families who seek this service."
This effort takes on even greater relevance in a municipality that has experienced far-reaching social and economic changes, such as an aging population, an increase in vulnerable situations, and cultural diversity. Addressing these realities has required action on several fronts: socio-health information and guidance, management of basic aid, support for dependents, interventions with minors, and coordination with island and regional institutions.
The continuation of this work is planned with a clear direction: to consolidate a solid, accessible, and more responsive social services system that will strengthen social cohesion and ensure that no one is left behind. With the involvement of the technical team and the commitment of the department, the department is moving toward a more effective, inclusive, and humane model, focused on improving the quality of life of the citizens of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
