Atom, the hotel REIT owned by Bankinter and owner of nearly thirty assets valued at nearly €920 million, has decided to accelerate its real estate rotation policy and has put one of the Canary Islands' most iconic properties on the market: the Hotel Bahía del Duque. Lopesan has already closed the purchase transaction, according to El Día de Tenerife.
Sources close to the transaction confirm what El Día de Tenerife reported on Thursday: the asset is now in the marketing phase, making it one of the most significant moves in the tourism and real estate sectors on the islands in recent years.
The Bahía del Duque, opened in 1993 in Costa Adeje, has established itself as a benchmark for luxury vacations in the archipelago. With its architecture inspired by Canarian traditions and a range of rooms, suites, and private villas, the hotel has established itself among a high-net-worth international clientele.
The hotel's general manager, Cristina De Juan, who recently received a lifetime achievement award at the "Mujer y Turismo" (Women and Tourism) Awards, highlighted the key to the hotel's distinctive identity in an interview with Radio Marca Tenerife's Despierta Canarias:
"We started in a specific area with a service and then expanded with more personalized offerings, such as villas. We've maintained that Canarian character at the forefront of the entire business, and I think these characteristics keep us differentiated," he stated.
Atom, which brings together shareholders from Bankinter's private banking division, has become the largest hotel REIT in Spain. With stakes in key destinations such as the Balearic Islands, Andalusia, and the Canary Islands, its strategy involves the selective rotation of mature assets to reinvest in new projects with growth potential.
The sale of the Bahía del Duque is part of this roadmap and opens a new chapter for a hotel that, three decades after its opening, remains synonymous with luxury, tradition, and modernity on the islands.
