Playa del Inglés woke up to a disturbing episode that shook parents, residents, and tourists. Early Sunday morning, 27 teenagers spending their vacation in the south of Gran Canaria were discovered in an attic of the New One nightclub, allegedly held against their will to avoid being located during a raid by the National Police. According to Canarias7, "Officers found the 27 teenagers crammed into an unventilated attic, watched by five employees who had ordered them to remain silent and turn off their cell phones to avoid detection."
The news was revealed by Las Palmas Canarias 7. Maspalomas24H contacted the leisure company on Monday, and the response was that the legal services had taken note of the request for verification and would respond if deemed necessary. This incident has had a strong impact on the Playa del Inglés community, highlighting the need to increase vigilance in leisure venues and strengthen protection measures for minors in tourist settings.
The operation, led by the Immigration Brigade, was initially aimed at detecting undocumented workers, undocumented foreigners, and the presence of minors in entertainment venues. What the officers found exceeded all expectations: a group of teenagers crammed into a windowless room, with a fan as the only ventilation, watched by five employees who had ordered them to remain silent and turn off their cell phones.
The alarm was raised when one of the girls managed to contact her father, a police officer, and told him of her fear: "Dad, I'm scared. They put us in a room so they wouldn't see us." Thanks to that call, officers were able to locate the room and rescue the 27 young people, providing them with water and immediate assistance.
The minors were temporarily removed from the premises while identification of all of them and their parents began. At the same time, the establishment's managers, including the five employees and the owner, were placed under investigation for alleged unlawful detention, in addition to possible administrative sanctions for allowing minors into the premises.
The case highlights not only the risks teenagers can face during their vacations, but also the importance of coordination and rapid police response. The Judicial Police investigation will continue in the coming days, and the minors are expected to testify to clarify all the details of this alarming incident.
