Maspaterror: The case that reeks of fear and festivals in southern Gran Canaria

YV - MASPALOMAS24H Wednesday, September 03, 2025

Nothing is known about World Tourism Day 2025, which is on September 27th, but they're already planning for November 1st. In Maspalomas, where the sun never asks permission to rise, a 25-page dossier is being prepared that could pass for an administrative grimoire. It's called Maspaterror 2025, and it's not the name of a cult or a B-movie video game, but the new toy from the Youth Department. The creature will be dressed in October with spotlights, artificial smoke, and a park converted into a panic corridor.

The fine print, signed with electronic stamps and CSVs that look like bunker passwords, details the obvious: sound, lights, a haunted house, and, of course, insurance. Because here, fear is built with specifications and policies, not ghosts. Three packages—image and electricity, design and management, self-protection, and insurance—to ensure the nightmare is, above all, legal.

The city council sells it as youth creativity, cultural promotion, and safe fun. Fine words to justify a contract that spends euros on fencing, trusses, and catering. Yes, because in the municipal hell, there are also sandwiches and bottled water. In the end, what's frightening isn't the costumes or the illuminated pumpkins, but the bureaucratic choreography that sustains it. A terrifying party born amid decrees, reports, and dated signatures. A Halloween with the smell of office rubber and auditor's sweat. In San Bartolomé de Tirajana, terror has become institutionalized. And it's called Maspaterror 2025.

The Department of Youth is once again supporting Maspaterror 2025, a project that combines creativity, cultural identity, and responsible leisure activities in Parque del Sur. The initiative offers young people the opportunity to get involved in the creation of a House of Terror, where they can unleash their talents in stage design, costume design, and acting. Beyond the spectacle, this is a space that fosters collective imagination and teamwork, generating shared experiences that strengthen the bonds between participants.

At the same time, Maspaterror is conceived as a platform to highlight local traditions and legends, integrating the cultural component into a recreational program that connects with young people. This strengthens community identity and offers a safe and engaging leisure alternative to other less desirable options. The continued existence of this event not only ensures its consolidation in the municipality's youth calendar but also confirms the institutional commitment to creativity, culture, and responsible entertainment.
