The detainee also recorded his victim without her consent.
On August 26, the Civil Guard in Vecindario arrested a man for sexual assault and a crime against privacy after detecting that the woman living in his home was recording her.
The victim had moved into the alleged attacker's home on April 12, 2025, after agreeing to a monthly rent of €400 with him, without any formal contract. During the months of living together, and always according to her testimony, the woman suffered several sexual assaults committed by the owner in different rooms of the house. On each occasion, the victim stated that she expressed her rejection and asked the suspect to stop, but he did not heed her pleas.
The woman claims that the landlord harassed her regularly and even threatened to kill her on several occasions. These threats, combined with the episodes of violence, created a constant atmosphere of fear that ultimately led her to leave the house and file a complaint with the authorities.
The victim's courage is even more remarkable considering that her precarious economic situation had led her to accept the living conditions. However, her determination to escape the cycle of violence overcame her fear of instability.
During the investigation, a second felony was revealed. The victim stated that, upon moving in, she noticed a camera in the hallway facing the door. When she questioned the landlord, he assured her it was disabled to respect her privacy.
This woman's complaint is a testament to the courage many victims demonstrate in breaking their silence, despite the adversity and vulnerability they face. Her act sends a clear message that violence should not be tolerated, no matter the circumstances.
This case once again underscores the urgent need to report this type of behavior. The abusers, as in this case, perceive women as mere objects, stripped of their humanity, their rights, and their privacy. They treat their bodies and lives as property over which they wield power, without showing the slightest hint of empathy. Breaking this cycle of violence is only possible through reporting the issue, allowing justice to act and protect those who have been victimized.
The proceedings and the detainee have been handed over to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Duty Court.
