The Gran Canaria Business Circle, although it includes members from Tenerife, has quietly celebrated its 30th anniversary in Maspalomas since its founding in 1985, remaining an influential business opinion group. Its main objective has always been to analyze and propose solutions to optimize the economic and social progress of the Canary Islands, operating as a non-profit and completely independent association. Its activities, funded exclusively by contributions from its members, defend the general interest rather than sectoral or specific interests, championing the role of the entrepreneur as a generator of progress and wealth.
The organization is comprised of a group of entrepreneurs, executives, and senior managers from renowned companies with extensive professional careers and solid human and intellectual training. The Board of Directors is composed of President Juan Ramírez Said, Vice President Oliver Alonso Rohner, Secretary José Julio Artiles Moragas, and Treasurer Alicia Martinón García. The members of the Assembly include José Acosta Matos, Pedro Andueza Avero, Sergio Arencibia Hernández, Antonio Bonny Miranda, Alberto Cabré de León, Dhiraj Chhabria Chhabria, Raju Daswani, Susana del Castillo Bello, Pedro Agustín del Castillo Machado, Fernando Del Castillo y Benítez de Lugo, Andrés Domínguez Pérez, Jurgen Flick, Manuel Freire Veiga, Laura Galarza Rodríguez, Francisco López González, Eustasio López González, Agustín Manrique de Lara, Rafael Méndez Martín, Rodolfo Núñez Ruano, Javier Puga Santana, Luis Roca Daffey, Mario Romero Mur, Mario Rodríguez Rodríguez, Herminia Rodríguez Rosas, Juan Miguel Sanjuan Jover, and Germán Carlos Suárez Calvo.
Among the most prominent figures of the Gran Canaria Business Circle was Sergio Alonso Reyes, a founding member of the organization and its president from 1996 to 2000. A renowned businessman and, above all, a leading figure both professionally and personally, Alonso was always committed to the development of the Canary Islands. With his vast business knowledge, he was constantly eager to advise and assist all sectors of the islands. Most importantly, he always spoke with sincerity and wisdom, and his exquisite ability to analyze all socioeconomic aspects made him a true role model for all members of the Circle.
To achieve its goals, the Circle analyzes political and economic events, generates opinion pieces, videos, and interviews, and disseminates them through its website and social media. It also studies the situation of different economic sectors to propose solutions, and organizes courses, conferences, and seminars to promote the best professional training. Its statements represent the general sentiment of the Circle, as they are developed and agreed upon by the business leaders themselves through their General Assembly. The Gran Canaria Business Circle has the valuable support of sponsoring companies that endorse its work. These include Destilerías Arehucas SA, Astilleros Canarios SA, Publicidad Atlantis SA, Juliano Bonny SL, Dinosol Supermercados SL, Domingo Alonso Group, Freiremar SA, Grupo Flick SL, Fund Grube, Grumasa, Lopesan SA, Grupo Mur SA, Rocasa, Clínica San Roque SA, Satocan SA, and Galaco.
