Elmasa goes woke: Agenda 2030, SDGs at the company owned by the Catalan family that invented the tourist destination of Maspalomas

Elmasa, a money-making machine or the hope of the planet? Elmasa is implementing a woke agenda that has nothing to do with the spirit of ownership. The family business in Condado de la Vega Grande is developing a woke agenda among its employees. Since February 2024, the Maspalomas-based company has launched a series of initiatives that seek to consolidate "its corporate culture through a lens of sustainability and shared values." What if one day all Republican employees were to go out with one of these group therapy sessions? In a video released this week, a session could be seen where employees circled around a room, hugged each other, and continued circling.

According to social media, the company is purchasing the services of a woke scheme from the consulting firms Audazia and Grupo Innovaris to "align" its strategy with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and foster principles such as ethics "and humility" among its workforce. Curiously, whoever manages this project knows what they shouldn't do: no commemorations of the LGBTQ+ concept.

With all the bells and whistles inherent in the Aganda 2030 machinery, the so-called "Grow Together" program has been the calling card for this new phase since March 2024. Employees participated in team-building activities and training sessions taught by Audazia, which emphasized conflict resolution through dialogue and understanding. The company assures that the approach is not theoretical: the idea is for the practices to be integrated into daily routines.

"Participatory construction" is also part of the corporate narrative. Three years ago, at an event held at the EDAM Maspalomas I plant, the workers themselves voted for the colleagues who best represented the company's values, receiving symbolic awards. Last March, Elmasa brought together all its departments in a workshop with the Innovaris Group to assess environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts, risks, and opportunities. The assessment will inform a strategic sustainability plan that seeks to guarantee operations that are "environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable in the long term."
