The victory in the 2.000 meters went to José Antonio Quiles and Sheila Pulido

It was 42 degrees around the Maspalomas Lighthouse around 12:50 this Saturday when Yare Cocerá, after a hectic crossing, registered his name as the men's winner of the 2025 Maspalomas Open Water Gran Canaria, in the 7.400-meter event. And Catalonia's Laura Rodríguez lived up to the predictions dictated by the established times and entered as the winner and third overall. It remains so.

 

He swam from El Pajar beach to El Faro Yare Cocera in one hour, 39 minutes, and three seconds. Álvaro Cabrera was right behind him from the start, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:42:36. Third-place finisher Enrique Mata (1:48:41) needed another six minutes. Fourth place went to Miguel Ángel Santana (1:48:46) and fifth to Fernando Téllez (1:51:31). 

 

Aside from the victory of the Spanish international Laura Rodríguez Santaeularia, with her time of 1:47.52, Isabel Válido finished second after covering the demanding 7.400 meters, taking two hours, two minutes, and three seconds. María Tatiana Mujica achieved her podium spot with a time of 2:14.05, beating Domenica Cilluffo (2:43.33), and fifth place went to Silvia Tovar (2:44.16).

 

In a six-second stretch, the top three finishers in the 2.000-meter race climbed the finish line at the Lighthouse. José Antonio Quiles won with a time of 25.15, followed by Unai Cocera (25.18) and Daniel Santana (25.21). Jeremy Peña was just shy of a podium finish with a time of 25.29, and Nicolás Bordes finished just a second behind. 

 

The women's race was more comfortable, with Sheila Pulido stopping the clock at 28.22, and second place went to Valeria Pulido, 28.46, followed by Sybille Bouchet (28.52), Irene Artiles (30.04) and Lola Fernández (30.25). 

 

And in the standings, there's the anecdotal note of the presence of historic triathlete Iván Raña, who stopped his watch 12 seconds before the half-hour mark. He's already focused on improving that time in the 15th edition. 

 

The first place finishers in the 1,000-meter race completed their course in a breathtaking fifteen minutes. Hugo Santos finished in 13.56, followed by Amaya Fuentes (13.59), Dacil Jover (14.00), and Jon Marián (15.47).

Swimmers from clubs such as Faynagua, Salinas, Credus Sevilla, RC Victoria, Tartessus, Gloria Swim&Train Maspalomas, Barcelona, ​​Belén María, Tizona, and Marea Viva, among others, have competed in this event.

 

Following the awards ceremony, which was attended by Carlos Álamo, Gran Canaria's Tourism Councilor, and Ramón Suárez, San Bartolomé de Tirajana's Sports Councilor, among others, the celebration continued with a musical performance by the group Los 600. The fifteenth edition will be held in a year.
