The Department of Tourism, Festivities, and Events of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has opened today the public's vote for the poster for the 2026 Maspalomas International Carnival, declared a Canary Islands Carnival of Tourist Interest. Voting will remain open until midnight on October 12th, using the form provided by the City Council, available in Spanish, English, and German.
The competition, organized by the Department of Tourism, Celebrations, and Events, received 37 proposals within the established deadline, between August 1 and 26, in addition to one out-of-competition entry. Of the submitted works, 29 were accepted, while 8 were excluded for violating the rules set forth in the competition guidelines, primarily due to the use of artificial intelligence tools in their production. The proposals came from different parts of the country, with participation from authors from the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana itself, as well as from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Lucía, Agüimes, Arucas, Ingenio, Santa María de Guía, Telde, as well as from Alicante, Zaragoza, Navarra, Valencia, Madrid, Ciudad Real, Barcelona, and Pontevedra.
The next Maspalomas International Carnival will be held from March 10 to 22, 2026, under the theme "The Circus." This theme was chosen by popular vote, achieving 52% of the votes against two other finalists: "Beautiful Italy" and "The Depths of the Ocean." This process consolidates citizen involvement in every phase of the festivities' preparations.
The Councilor for Tourism, Celebrations, and Events, Yilenia Vega, emphasized that "having a representative lineup is essential to conveying the essence of our Carnival and inviting residents and tourists to join in this celebration. Every year, we see how the creativity of the participants reinforces Maspalomas' identity as an open, diverse, and festive destination."
For his part, the First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, emphasized "the economic and social importance of the Maspalomas International Carnival, which generates direct and indirect employment and boosts sectors such as commerce, restaurants, and accommodation. This competition not only defines the image of the festivities but also boosts the tourism industry of the entire municipality."
The Maspalomas International Carnival maintains a strong tradition of participation. In previous editions, thousands of residents and visitors have contributed their votes and proposals, consolidating this competition as a creative and open space that strengthens the bond between the festival and its audience.
Vega recalled that "the chosen poster will be the official image of an event that each year projects Maspalomas to the world as one of the archipelago's most dynamic and colorful tourist destinations. Therefore, we invite residents and tourists to actively participate in the selection and be part of the festive spirit that characterizes the municipality," the councilor concluded.
