CENCOSU-SPAR Gran Canaria, one of the island's leading food groups, took a decisive step in its logistics expansion with the opening of a new 5.000 m² warehouse in El Goro in January 2025, supplying 201 stores daily. The company has renewed its trust in SISLOG, a Hardis Group business, to manage this warehouse, which specializes in fresh and frozen products, demonstrating the ability of its warehouse management system (WMS) to coordinate complex logistics flows and maintain cold chain quality.
The center, strategically located in the El Goro Industrial Park, has six loading docks and joins the company's other two logistics centers: one specializing in fruit and vegetables in Mercalaspalmas and another dedicated to dry goods, also in El Goro. The implementation of SISLOG's WMS took seven months and included dividing the warehouse into refrigerated and frozen product zones, with specific picking areas tailored to item rotation. For medium- and low-rotation products, the preparation route was optimized, whether for a single order or multiple orders, combining conventional shelving and drive-in systems according to the product's needs.
Pick-to-cart picking has allowed orders from different customers to be consolidated into a single route, using individual, labeled insulated cages, reducing travel and improving efficiency. A tight flow will soon be implemented for high-turnover items, directly from the drive-through racks to the positive-efficiency cold storage bays, strictly adhering to the FIFO (first in, first out) system and minimizing product handling. SISLOG SGA's flexibility and advanced configuration options allow for the management of these complex operations, ensuring speed, efficiency, and adaptability to changing consumer habits. The opening of this center marks the beginning of a sustainable logistics transformation that guarantees efficient cold storage flow and reinforces the growth of CENCOSU-SPAR Gran Canaria on the island.
