Bureaucracy in the automotive sector in southern Gran Canaria is about to take a giant leap forward. The Canary Islands Tax Agency (ATC) and the autonomous body, the Central Traffic Headquarters (JCT), have signed an agreement that will allow for the electronic exchange of vehicle registration data, with a clear objective: to eliminate paperwork, shorten waiting times, and drastically simplify the process of changing ownership. This measure puts an end to the requirement, considered "obsolete" by the authorities, that citizens of southern Gran Canaria must physically prove payment or exemption from property transfer taxes (ITP) or inheritance and gift taxes (ISD) to the Traffic Headquarters.

The agreement embodies the commitment to e-administration, simplifying the lives of both citizens and companies in the automotive sector. The process will be entirely digital: the JCT will provide the ATC (Transport Agency) electronically with essential vehicle data (registration number, model, power rating, ownership history, etc.). Once the ITP (Transportation Tax) or ISD (Imported Property Transfer Tax) has been paid, the ATC (Transport Agency) will immediately and electronically notify the JCT that the tax obligation has been fulfilled. This way, the DGT will only need to receive this favorable digital report from the ATC (Transport Agency) to process the change of vehicle ownership, without requiring any additional documentation from the interested party.

This change promises to eliminate "in-person visits to various administrative offices" and the "complex process that paralyzes the resolution of applications," which until now delayed processing by days. Furthermore, the agreement not only seeks simplification. It is also designed to improve the ATC's tax management, collection, and inspection. Access to Vehicle Registry data will allow the regional agency to "combat potential fraud" in taxes levied on the acquisition and transfer of vehicles.

The agreement, initially valid for four years, guarantees strict compliance with data protection regulations and establishes the creation of a Joint Coordination and Monitoring Committee, made up of two representatives from each agency, to oversee its implementation and resolve any disputes. The agreement was signed by Laura Rivero Padrón, Secretary General of the ATC, and Pere Navarro Olivella, President of the Central Traffic Headquarters.
