Antonio Morales visited Avenida de Canarias this Saturday, where the event that was born in the Southeast in 2020 and has established itself as a benchmark for responsible consumption and sustainability is being held.

The president of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales, inaugurated this Saturday the 32nd edition of the Km.0 Gran Canaria Fair, which is being held this weekend on Avenida de Canarias in Vecindario. The event brings together 50 agri-food producers, more than 60% from the Southeast, consolidating the region as the capital of sustainability on the island. During the institutional visit, the president was accompanied by the president of the Southeast Community of Gran Canaria, Vanesa Martín, and the mayor of the host municipality, Francisco José García, among others.

The fair, which began in 2020 in the Southeast, has become one of the main showcases for local products, offering the public a wide variety ranging from salt, oil, and olives to cheeses, honey, wines, bread, beer, milk, plants, and flowers. In addition, there are fruits and vegetables, pastries, jams, coffee, free-range eggs, mushrooms, microgreens, aloe vera, sugarcane juice, empanadas, juices, cider, and ice cream. Many of the participating producers have won quality awards at regional competitions, with a special focus on cheese factories in the Southeast.

The Km.0 Gran Canaria Fair aims to boost the local economy, promote local consumption, foster sustainable habits, and support those who contribute to preserving the island's landscape. This year, it is also being held in conjunction with the Feria del Sol (Sun Fair), organized by the Mancomunidad del Sureste (Southeast Community) to raise awareness about the importance of advancing a sustainable energy model.

“The Southeast is once again the epicenter of sustainability with a fair that highlights the work of our producers and the enormous quality of local products,” stated Morales. “These initiatives contribute to boosting the economy, strengthening Gran Canaria's identity, and bringing citizens closer to the commitment to responsible consumption and the eco-island we defend,” the president argued.

The fair, which is supported by the Gran Canaria Island Council through the Ministry of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts and the Gran Canaria Me Gusta program it manages, is held in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, Gran Canaria Tourism, the Canary Islands Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), and Cajasiete.
