Labor dispute in the tourism sector: Dertour's staff in the Canary Islands are awaiting negotiations.

Gara Hernández - M24H Monday, September 29, 2025

Amid the wage dispute over higher salaries in the tourism sector, Dertour has taken a step toward its employees and announced a one-time payment of 1.000 euros, to be made in November.

The news has a particular impact in Maspalomas, where Dertour concentrates a significant portion of its operations in the Canary Islands and where staff have been demanding better conditions for months.

Until last week, the company had rejected the proposal from the Verdi trade union federation, which proposed a temporary solution valid until the end of 2025. Britta Fischer, director of Human Resources at Dertour Group in Germany, argued that accepting this formula would have left unresolved "the regulation of the new variable remuneration, a key issue that would have been postponed indefinitely."

Verdi: “Without the pressure of the workers, there would be nothing.”

The Verdi union described the measure as a 180-degree turn and attributed it directly to pressure from the workforce. In a statement, it noted that the mobilizations, support for the open manifesto, participation in union actions and strikes, as well as the willingness to continue fighting, have forced the company to take action.

However, the organization warns of a "trick": the payment of 1.000 euros would be offset by possible salary increases negotiated through December 2025. "This means that, according to Dertour's vision and the DRV-T's proposals, there would be little room for additional increases in 2025," Verdi denounced.

The union insists that workers, including those in destinations such as Maspalomas and southern Gran Canaria, must remain active and mobilized. The hope is that the meetings scheduled for October 29 and 30 will lead to a solid and balanced agreement for both parties.
