Fischer Air launches flights from Germany to Gran Canaria in December despite doubts about its relaunch.

GARA HERNÁNDEZ - M24H Monday, September 29, 2025

German travelers planning to spend Christmas in Gran Canaria can now find connections available starting December 20, 2025, through Fischer Air's booking system. The news comes amid some confusion about the airline's relaunch, which still lacks final approval from the aviation authority.

Flights from Kassel, Hamburg and Friedrichshafen

The company founded by veteran tourism entrepreneur Václav Fischer had announced its return to the market with routes from Kassel-Calden, Hamburg, and Friedrichshafen to sun and beach destinations. Gran Canaria appears to be the first of the winter connections available, followed by Hurghada (Egypt) and Mallorca, scheduled to begin operating from April 2026.

In the case of Kassel-Calden, the airport itself had announced that flights to the Canary Islands would not begin until February. However, on the Fischer Air platform, connections to Gran Canaria have been open for bookings since December 20, which would allow German tourists to fly to the island just before the Christmas holidays.

Contradictions with other destinations

The situation is repeated with Crete: although Kassel Airport doesn't include this route in its schedule, the Fischer Air website does offer a weekly connection to the Greek island starting in late March. These inconsistencies fuel doubts about the project's seriousness.

Vaclav Fischer and his attempt to return to the airline market

The name Fischer Air is not new. The airline once operated under the umbrella of the Fischer Reisen tourism group, and its founder has been trying to revive it for years, albeit without definitive results. This time, the project is moving forward slowly and with uncertainty, as the airline still lacks an official license to operate scheduled flights.

Opportunity for tourism in Gran Canaria

Despite the doubts, the possibility of direct flights from Germany to Gran Canaria in December is generating excitement in the Canary Islands tourism sector. Germany remains the main source market for the archipelago, and each new connection—even from secondary airports like Kassel—can make a difference during the high season.

For those looking for flights to Gran Canaria from Germany at Christmas, Fischer Air is already appearing as an option on booking search engines, although it remains to be seen whether the relaunch will be finalized.
