A total of 11 bicycles that had been stolen from different parts of the island have been recovered.

The detainee used cycling clothing, tattoo simulators and a bolt cutter in his modus operandi.

He was located in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, where all the bicycles at his home were seized.

The National Police have arrested a 72-year-old man with a police record in San Bartolomé de Tirajana as the alleged perpetrator of theft following the systematic theft of bicycles in various locations in Gran Canaria.

The investigation began last August, following a report of the theft of an electric bicycle valued at €2.800. It was discovered that the perpetrator traveled by bus to areas far from his residence, where he selected bicycles to steal. To try to go unnoticed, he wore cycling clothing and carried a backpack containing bolt cutters, which he used to tamper with the security systems.

The arrested man also used fake tattoos on his arms to make his identification difficult, and after committing the robberies, he returned home transporting the bicycles in the cargo hold of the bus.

Police investigations determined that the suspect was capable of stealing several bicycles in a single morning, which he then offered for street sale in the area around his residence.

Finally, thanks to the investigation, officers were able to identify him and arrest him in the town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, where a total of eleven stolen bicycles were recovered.

The detainee has already been placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
