Warrant Officer José Felipe Santana takes office as the first professional career firefighter to reach the technical leadership position of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana SEIS.

With the coverage of this position, the City Council marks a milestone in the professionalization of the service and provides the tourist municipality with a permanent and career technical leadership position.

The Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS) of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has taken a historic step with the creation and filling, for the first time, of an Officer position in the operational technical scale, a milestone that marks the professionalization and consolidation of the municipal fire department's structure.

The new position, obtained through an internal promotion competition, has been filled by José Felipe Santana Rodríguez, 44, a career civil servant with the SEIS. An Industrial Engineer with a master's degree in Fire Engineering and Occupational Risk Prevention in all its specialties, he joined the force in 2017 as a permanent officer and has been a non-commissioned officer since 2019.

In recent years, during which he served as interim head of the service, Santana has led a process of modernizing and strengthening the SEIS, providing it with a more operational organizational structure and managing the improvement of the vehicle fleet and intervention teams (traffic, work at height, water rescue, medical, among others) thanks to subsidies from various administrations worth nearly €2,3 million.

The solemn inauguration ceremony for Santana Rodríguez, held at the Town Hall in the historic center of Tunte, was presided over by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, accompanied by the First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for the Presidency and Human Resources, Elena Álamo Vega, and by the Councilor for Security and Emergency, José Carlos Álamo, along with members of the SEIS governing body.

With this appointment, the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council reinforces its commitment to the professionalization, stability, and modernization of the Fire and Rescue Service, an essential area for safety and emergencies in the tourist municipality.
