The Civil Guard has completed an investigation that dismantled a network dedicated to illicit drug trafficking in Gran Canaria. The operation resulted in two arrests, one of them linked to the pharmaceutical sector, accused of crimes against public health, document falsification, and identity theft.

The investigation began after detecting irregularities in the distribution of drugs with high addictive potential, including Rubifen and amphetamine derivatives, used in medical treatments such as ADHD. Officers at the Vecindario Main Post analyzed security footage, compared official documentation, and collected testimonies from victims and witnesses, in coordination with the Canary Islands Health Service.

The investigation revealed the direct involvement of a pharmacy assistant, who manipulated the computer system to divert medications to the black market, falsifying prescriptions and impersonating third parties with the collaboration of a second suspect. The network extended its operations to at least five municipalities and stole some 4.150 doses of drugs, directly affecting thirteen minors diagnosed with ADHD who were deprived of their prescribed medication.

During a house search, numerous documents and evidence were seized, pointing to more cases under investigation. With this operation, the Civil Guard dismantled a network that defrauded the healthcare system and seriously endangered the health of vulnerable patients. The detainees and the proceedings were handed over to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Duty Court.
