Norwegian Air Shuttle announced this Wednesday the opening of a new direct route between Gran Canaria and Billund (Denmark) for the 2026 summer season, expanding the air network linking the archipelago with Northern Europe. The airline will operate a weekly return flight on Mondays between March 30 and October 19, 2026, allowing the island to strengthen ties with one of Scandinavia's most important family markets.
"Billund is synonymous with family leisure and creativity, with attractions like Legoland, and we want to bring this destination closer to Spanish travelers while offering Danes more options to enjoy the beaches and climate of Gran Canaria," Magnus Thome Maursund, Norwegian's commercial director, explained in a statement to Maspalomas24H. The announcement comes at a key moment for the island's tourism sector. Denmark, along with Sweden and Norway, is one of the main sources of visitors to the south of Gran Canaria, especially in the long-stay segment during the winter months. The new connection with Billund, in the heart of the Jutland peninsula, will diversify the arrival of Scandinavian tourists and open a direct route to an airport that handles millions of passengers each year.
