Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez welcomes the representatives of the Galician community, headed by the mayor of Triacastela, who will participate today in the 131st anniversary of the town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, welcomed the institutional representatives of the Galician association of municipalities on the French Way of St. James to the municipality this Thursday. This afternoon, they will participate in the floral offering to the religious icons of St. James and St. Bartholomew in the historic center of Tunte, and in the official commemorative event marking the 131st anniversary of the municipality being granted the title of town.

The meeting with the Galician delegation, which also included the Deputy Mayor for the Presidency, Culture, and Education, Elena Álamo Vega, and the Councilor for Municipal Services, Eduardo Armas Herrera, took place in a relaxed and warm atmosphere at the Church of Santiago de Tunte, where Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez showed them the religious sculptures of Saint James the Little and the Great.

This twinning event between municipal authorities linked to the Camino de Santiago was promoted within the framework of the "The Path of Values" project, which Judge Reyes Martel of Juvenile Court No. 1 of Las Palmas has been promoting for nine years to integrate minors and young people at risk or in vulnerable situations.

The meeting between the two delegations took place quite early, before the Galician representatives began the arduous climb up the Paso de La Plata, a section of the Canary Islands route to Santiago that connects Cruz Grande and the Llanos de La Pez.

The Galician delegation includes the mayors José Luis Raposo Magdalena (Pedrafita do Cebreiro), María Olga Iglesias Fontal (Triacastela), Claudio Garrido Martínez (Sarria), Monserrat Muler Sar (Paradela), Eleoy Pérez Sindín (Monterroso) and Manuel Taboada Vigo (O Pino) and the deputy mayors José Antonio García Jurjo (Samos), Alicia López (Palas de Rei), Xosé Igrexas García (Melide) and Begoña Balado Conde (Arzúa).

Before setting out on the Paso de la Plata hike, representatives of the Galician association of municipalities on the French Way of St. James, chaired by the mayor of Triacastela, took a family photo in front of the 16th-century Holy Door of the Church of Santiago de Tunte, discovered during the restoration of the temple in 1996, and visited the Town Hall of La Villa, where they also immortalized the meeting.
