The south of Gran Canaria was visited by the British magazine Cyclist UK on a press trip organized between September 8 and 11 by Gran Canaria Tourism, in collaboration with the Spanish Tourist Office (STO) in London. The event is part of the strategy to position the island as an international benchmark in high-level sports tourism, especially in the cycle touring segment, where the United Kingdom is one of the most strategic markets.
During their stay, the magazine's deputy editor, James Spender, and photographer Peter Goding cycled three of the island's most iconic climbs, selected for the Classic Climbs editorial series. Each ride will be featured in a ten-page report, featuring firsthand images and narrative, to be published in various issues of the magazine, as well as being disseminated through its digital ecosystem and social media channels.
The potential impact is significant: Cyclist UK has a print circulation of over 36.000 copies and an international presence in markets such as France, Turkey, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as a highly active digital community. This audience has a medium-to-high socioeconomic profile and high spending capacity, making this a highly valuable strategic tool for promoting the destination.
With initiatives like this, Gran Canaria strengthens its position as a year-round "outdoor gym" in the south of the island, attracting both professional cyclists and demanding amateurs looking to combine sport, nature, and wellness. Events like Gran Canaria Bike Week and the Gran Canaria 365 project, which this year will feature international figures such as Tadej Pogacar, consolidate this image of an island ready to compete in the most dynamic segment of European sports tourism.
