Canavia, the pilot school based in southern Gran Canaria, and Volotea Airlines have signed a preferential hiring agreement that provides a direct and fast-track path for graduates of the ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) program to access the cockpit. This agreement is a significant boost for young aviators, bringing them closer to the Airbus A320 cockpit and shortening the timeframe for starting their professional careers.
The new program establishes that Canavia's ATPL graduates will advance directly into Volotea's recruitment process. Most notably, a crucial part of this process will take place on the islands: interviews, assessments, and simulator sessions will be conducted at Canavia's own facilities in Maspalomas. This not only facilitates the process for Canarian candidates but also validates the quality of the training offered by the school.
With this agreement, Canavia students who complete their Type Rating directly with Volotea will be taking a decisive step toward joining the airline. The collaboration seeks to efficiently attract talent, ensuring that pilots trained at the Canary Islands school meet the airline's high operational standards.
Volotea, the airline specializing in connecting small and medium-sized European cities, is ramping up its expansion plans, focusing directly on markets where Ryanair has announced capacity cuts. The airline has set its sights on France and Spain, anticipating significant seat growth in the coming years.
Carlos Muñoz, Volotea's chief executive officer, confirmed in a meeting with journalists that the company is actively analyzing airports that offer new opportunities, particularly those where the Irish airline has withdrawn routes or reduced frequencies. Volotea's strategy, however, will remain true to its model: prioritizing small and medium-sized cities, with France as its main market.
