Southern Gran Canaria is consolidating its position as a key hub for investment in renewable energy. The Directorate General of Energy has relaunched the Public Information process for five photovoltaic solar plant projects in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. This investment package, including the individual budgets for the facilities and their evacuation infrastructure, exceeds €20 million in execution.
The projects, identified as "FV PTESGC-1," "FV PTESGC-2," "FV PTESGC-4," "FV PTESGC-4II," and "FV PTESGC-5," represent a decisive push toward the decarbonization of the island's energy mix. All projects are located in Polígono 16, plot 612, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and are characterized by the use of cutting-edge technology with LONGI SOLAR or similar photovoltaic modules and SMA brand inverters, guaranteeing high efficiency:
The PTESGC-5 project stands out as the largest individual investment in the facility, exceeding €6,1 million for the photovoltaic plant alone. It adds to the more complex evacuation infrastructure, shared with PTESGC-4II, which connects to the San Agustín Substation. Although the projects had already been subject to public information in October 2024, this new publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE) is necessary to incorporate the technical modifications to the evacuation infrastructure and the resulting new, specific and individualized list of assets and rights that must be expropriated.
The General Directorate of Energy, as the competent substantive body, submits the projects and the request for declaration, specifically, of public utility to this legal procedure, allowing any interested person - especially the affected owners and holders - to examine the documentation and make the allegations they deem appropriate within a period of thirty days (30), in accordance with Royal Decree 1955/2000 and Decree 141/2009.
This investment not only underscores Gran Canaria's commitment to solar energy, but also activates a complex administrative and land-use planning process that will ensure this significant capital injection translates into clean energy for the island's grid.
All the photovoltaic projects are concentrated in Polygon 16, plot 612, within the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, underscoring the consolidation of this area as a key hub for clean energy production in Gran Canaria. These five developments are supported by cutting-edge technology, using LONGI SOLAR or similar photovoltaic modules and SMA inverters, ensuring high energy conversion efficiency.
The total investment in the projects reflects a multi-million-dollar commitment to the energy transition. The implementation budgets for the plants' facilities add up to a considerable figure, with the PTESGC-5 project standing out with the largest individual investment in the plant (€6.141.968,90) and the installation of 9.396 modules. It is closely followed by PTESGC-1, with 10.080 modules and a budget of €5.400.000,00. PTESGC-2, meanwhile, will provide 8.400 modules at a cost of €4.800.000,00, and the PTESGC-4 project will install 6.615 modules with a budget of €3.412.527,42. Finally, PTESGC-4II, although the smallest, incorporates 3.240 modules and requires an investment of €1.928.099,69.
The efficiency strategy is also reflected in the evacuation infrastructure, with costs exceeding half a million euros in most cases and optimized through shared use. The PTESGC-1 and PTESGC-2 plants share the evacuation to the Tablero 20 kV substation, with a combined cost of €534.588,09. Similarly, PTESGC-4II and PTESGC-5 share the more complex evacuation infrastructure, valued at €776.830,81, connecting to the S_AGUSTIN 20 kV substation. Separately, the evacuation of PTESGC-4 to the Lomo Maspalomas 20 kV substation amounts to €214.458,88.
