The official gala, presided over by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, will be held at the Maspalomas Cultural Center.
Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez will preside over the solemn ceremony for the official presentation of the Honors and Distinctions of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana 2025 this Saturday. The ceremony will be held at the Maspalomas Cultural Center starting at 20:00 p.m., as part of the institutional program commemorating the 131st anniversary of the naming of the town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
This formal act formally fulfills the administrative agreement reached last Friday, August 1, when the Municipal Corporation unanimously approved the proposal for the eleven official recognitions to be awarded at this event.
At the proposal of the Department of the Presidency headed by Deputy Mayor Elena Álamo Vega, the City Council will award the titles of Favorite Son of the municipality to Pedro José Franco López (Maspalomas, 1951), and of Adopted Sons to Theo Gerlach (Hamburg, 1928) and Andrés Ocón Guzmán (Málaga, 1939 -2024), posthumously.
In accordance with the plenary agreement, the Gold Medal of the municipality will be awarded at the same gala to Tatiana Mar Vaquero Escribano (Maspalomas, 1985), Francisco Brazuelo Cañizares (Madrid, 1949), María Dolores Osés Merino (San Sebastián, 1947), Orlando Viera Morales (Caracas, 1958), Ann Kristin Ekstrand (Lalmar, Sweden, 1952) and Josefa Trujillo Abrante (Castillo del Romeral, 1940). Benito Pérez Franco (Lomo de Maspalomas, 1951) will also be recognized with the distinction of 'Honorary Councilor' of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
This will be the second institutional Honors and Distinctions gala held by the City Council. In its first edition, on October 11, 2024, five collective awards and six individual awards were presented, which had been approved in plenary sessions since 2019. Specifically, the title of Favorite Sons of the Municipality was awarded—both posthumously—to Noé Peña and Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez, for their respective contributions as director of the Municipal Music School and creator of the Umiaya Folklore Group (the former), and as Official Chronicler, as well as promoter of research on sudden death and for his cultural and social commitment to the community (the latter). At the same event, the title of Adoptive Sons was awarded to labor advisor Francisco Rodríguez Santana, and, posthumously, to the multidisciplinary artist who resided in Ayacata, Juan Hidalgo Codorniú. The Gold Medal of the municipality was awarded individually to Andrés Barriales Ardura and the former municipal secretary Lorenzo Castejón Mateo, and as a group to the various security and emergency bodies of the municipality, specifically to the Local Police, National Police of the Maspalomas Police Station, Maspalomas Firefighters, and the local assemblies of Civil Protection and the Red Cross.
