A tragic accident occurred on the GC-500 highway, near the Juan Grande landfill roundabout in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

According to information provided by the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), the driver of the car lost his life on the spot, while two passengers of the bus were injured. serious injuries and were urgently transferred to a hospital to receive specialized medical care.

 

Emergency services intervention in the GC-500 accident

 

At the scene of the accident they have intervened three fire trucks from San Bartolomé de Tirajana, a truck from the Fire Consortium, two medicalized ambulances and two basic ambulances from the SUC. In addition, the following were sent to the area: Civil Traffic Guard, the road service and the Local Police of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, coordinating rescue and assistance efforts for those affected.

 

The road was closed at the Aeroclub roundabout to facilitate both rescue efforts and the investigation into the cause of the accident.

 

Causes and consequences of the accident on the GC-500: ongoing investigation

 

The accident was caused by a head-on collision when the passenger vehicle entered the oncoming lane, directly impacting the bus. The magnitude of the impact required the immediate mobilization of significant emergency resources.

 

The exact circumstances that caused the car to enter the opposite lane are currently being investigated. Authorities are restoring normality to the GC-500.

 

The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) treated a total of sixteen people at the scene of the accident.

 

The bus driver suffered severe multiple injuries and was taken by ambulance from the SUC (Sector of Unity) to the Gran Canaria University Hospital. Another victim suffered severe head trauma and was taken by ambulance to the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria.

 

Likewise, five people with moderate injuries, barring complications, were taken to San Roque University Hospital in Maspalomas, while three others with similar injuries were transferred to Hospiten Roca. In addition, two people with moderate injuries were taken to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria.

 

Four other people were treated at the scene of the accident, but did not require transfer to a hospital.
