Alejandro Marichal: "At the October plenary session, we will present a proposal to ask the Island Council and the Canary Islands Government to collaborate with sufficient human resources and resources to care for the homeless."
Dimas Sarmiento: "This project is not just about providing assistance, but also about promoting the autonomy, social inclusion, and employment of homeless people."
The Department of Social Services of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council will present the Comprehensive Intervention Project for People Experiencing Homelessness at the October plenary session. This proposal was promoted by the Department after analyzing the data obtained in the Social Report on Homelessness in the municipality.
First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal (CC) explained that "a few months ago, all political parties agreed during the plenary session to develop an action plan to assist the homeless in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Now, after reviewing the data and assessing the current homelessness situation in the town, we are moving forward with the implementation of this project that proposes concrete and sustainable solutions."
For his part, the Councilor for Social Services, Dimas Sarmiento (CC), emphasizes that the Comprehensive Intervention Project, with an expected investment of over 300.000 euros, "represents a strategic, professional, and coordinated response to one of the most serious forms of social exclusion. It will allow us to directly and systematically serve the homeless population, ensuring their access to basic rights, individualized support, and referral to specialized resources."
Marichal announced that the City Council will request the collaboration of both the Gran Canaria Island Council and the Canary Islands Government to add personnel and technical resources to strengthen comprehensive care for the most vulnerable groups.
In turn, Councilor Sarmiento emphasized that this project "is the result of prior diagnostic work that allows us to act with precision. It's not just about offering assistance, but also about promoting autonomy, social integration, and job placement among those without housing."
With this initiative, the Department of Social Services reaffirms its commitment to combating social exclusion and takes a key step toward establishing a stable and coordinated model that restores dignity and opportunities to those most in need in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
