This October 24th and 25th, from 17:00 PM to 22:00 PM, Parque del Sur will host a youth and family show with an interactive haunted house, workshops, a flashmob, a virtual room, an open-air cinema, and a horror soundtrack concert.
This Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th, the Parque Urbano del Sur will host the second edition of 'Maspaterror,' a fun and engaging initiative by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council for young people and families. It aims to raise awareness and educate about the serious consequences of environmental degradation caused by pollution and waste misuse.
The event, promoted and organized by the Youth Department headed by Deputy Mayor Elena Álamo Vega and coordinated by Councilor Esther Delgado Sánchez, will take place near the amphitheater with a rich cultural and scenographic presence. The haunted house will feature nine interactive rooms and a 3D virtual one set in a dystopian future, where attendees can experience firsthand and appreciate the shocking and undesirable effects of pollution as a real, major problem on this planet.
“This year, Maspaterror offers adrenaline and fear, but also awareness. The show abandons classic horror film tropes, such as possessed girls, dream killers, and legendary monsters and creatures, to focus on a much more real and tangible horror, such as the accumulation of waste and environmental degradation. Harmful pollution is affecting water, air, land, and even acoustics, and we all have an obligation to speak out, explain, and reverse it,” says Elena Álamo Vega.
More than 100 people
More than one hundred people will be actively involved in the performance and production of Maspaterror II, including municipal workers, workshop leaders, dancers, actors and extras, technical crew, and security personnel. Students and teachers from the Aesthetics and Beauty program at the IES Faro de Maspalomas will be involved in this edition, providing makeup and characterization for all the characters.
The entertainment program for this horror show, focused on promoting sustainability and environmental awareness, is aimed at families and young people aged twelve and over, although accompanied minors under parental supervision may participate. It will run free of charge both this Friday and Saturday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. In addition to the themed rooms, it includes an inaugural flashmob led by the municipality's dance academies and schools: Dunia Morales, Urban Dance, Ballet Maspalomas, and Los Kids de Levi y Estrella; a concert on horror film soundtracks featuring the Maspalomas Sol y Arena Music Band; three Halloween-themed craft and comic book workshops; and an outdoor film screening of "The Conjuring."
