Crime news in southern Gran Canaria: jail time sought for trafficking methamphetamine and liquid ecstasy

YURENA VEGA - M24H Sunday, October 26, 2025

The tourist heart of southern Gran Canaria, known for its beaches and nightlife, is the scene of an accusation of a serious crime against public health. The Prosecutor's Office has formalized the indictment and requested the opening of a trial before the Provincial Court of Las Palmas against RER, a Spanish man, for drug trafficking in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

The focus is on an identification carried out by the National Police on May 11, 2023, near Avenida de Tirajana and Avenida Ocho de Marzo, an area with high traffic and social activity. The prosecutor's report, to which Maspalomas24H has had access, details that the arrest occurred when RER was carrying a backpack containing a small bag containing the illegal merchandise, as well as divided cash. The seized substances, which have been analyzed, are high-risk:

Methamphetamine: 10,84 grams of this drug with a high purity of 80,7% were seized. GHB (liquid ecstasy): 18 grams of this substance were found, the amount of which is unknown. The same goes for €225 in cash and fractions, which the prosecutor believes came from illicit sales. The total market value of the drugs is €1.207,46, and the Prosecutor's Office maintains that the defendant possessed them with the clear objective of obtaining "an illicit profit after their sale, thus endangering individual and collective health."

The Public Prosecutor's Office classifies the events as a crime against public health for trafficking in substances that cause serious harm to health. Consequently, it requests the court to sentence the defendant RER to four years in prison and a fine of 3.622 euros. Additionally, it requests special disqualification from the right to vote for the duration of the sentence. With this procedural step, the Provincial Court is expected to soon set a date for the oral trial that will determine the guilt or innocence of the accused in this drug trafficking case in the tourist south of Gran Canaria.
