SPAR Gran Canaria has received a favorable resolution from the Spanish Office for Climate Change regarding its application to register the purchasing center in the Register of carbon footprint, compensation and carbon dioxide absorption projects of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
In December 2024, the supermarket chain submitted to this body the calculation of the carbon footprint corresponding to the previous year of its central purchasing unit, which includes the distribution activities and supply services to partner supermarkets carried out in its two headquarters located in Telde and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The calculation takes into account both direct greenhouse gas emissions and indirect emissions, which are those associated with the electricity generation acquired and consumed by the organization.
The registration of SPAR Gran Canaria's central purchasing office in this registry represents a further step in the company's commitment to the island, its inhabitants and its environment, as well as its willingness to take measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its activity and its environmental impact.
