Palm tree fire in Mogán triggers a large emergency response in Gran Canaria

The flames affected several palm trees on Canada Avenue without causing damage to homes or vehicles

 

Un spectacular fire declared this Monday afternoon in the palm grove on Canada Avenue, Tauro, located in the municipality of MogánThis has triggered the immediate mobilization of the main emergency services in southern Gran Canaria. The incident, reported at approximately 19:20 p.m. to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2, generated numerous calls alerting about the fire that was spreading rapidly among the palm trees of the emblematic Moganero enclave.

 

In response to the alert, a large-scale operation was activated, comprised of the Firefighters of the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, agents of the Mogán Local Police, troops of the Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) and members of Civil Protection from the municipality. They are all working together to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from affecting nearby homes or vehicles. According to official sources from the Canary Islands Government's Security and Emergency Department, although several palm trees have been damaged, no material damage to buildings or cars has been reported so far. Authorities are maintaining constant vigilance over the situation while intensive efforts continue to control and extinguish the fire. The exact cause of the fire in Mogán is still unknown, but the Civil Guard has launched an investigation to determine what happened.
