For the safety of the decoration and lighting work at Parque del Sur, to once again transform it into Gran Canaria's largest Christmas Park, the park will be temporarily closed from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 16:00 p.m., from Monday, November 17th to December 5th.
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council has already begun decorating the entire municipality for Christmas 2025. The Department of Public Lighting, headed by Deputy Mayor Araceli Armas Cruz, plans to install more than 1.200 decorative elements. This work, which will culminate in the South Urban Park (Parque Urbano del Sur), as it did last year, will require the partial closure of the park from Monday, November 17th, until December 5th, for safety and logistical reasons. Partial street closures will also be implemented in the surrounding villages soon for the installation of the festive lighting.
The temporary closure of Parque del Sur for the planned decoration of the park, transforming it once again into a vast and dazzling Christmas Park—home, as in 2024, to the largest Christmas light show in southern Gran Canaria—will take place exclusively from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Until the installation is complete, park visitors will only be able to access it normally on Saturdays and Sundays, and from Monday to Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
“This partial closure is mandatory. It has been established out of a sense of responsibility to guarantee the safety of people during the work, which in many cases involves the use of machinery for the installation of the largest decorative structures. The show that the City Council is preparing for this year will feature 15 new elements,” says Araceli Armas.
Christmas theme park
The departments of Public Lighting and Culture, the latter headed by Deputy Mayor Elena Álamo Vega, strategically transformed the South Urban Park into a Christmas theme park in 2024, centralizing in it both the daily family and children's activities program 'Christmas of the World' and more than 80 large light structures between 1,5 and 12 meters high and with a three-dimensional format, most of them even walkable.
That successful combination of the light show and the development of the cultural program of Christmas activities meant that the Parque del Sur became an extraordinary and attractive leisure option for children and families during the Christmas holidays for the residents of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, but also for tourists from Maspalomas and Mogán and people from all over the Island.
