The Department of Social Services of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has presented the project 'Adolescent well-being trajectories: an integral approach from their contexts', aimed at suicide prevention and the promotion of psychological well-being among young people aged 12 to 18.

Through the project Adolescent well-being trajectories: a comprehensive approach from their contextsAn innovative strategy is being implemented involving the municipality's public schools, with the aim of detecting early signs of emotional risk and strengthening protective factors in the school, family, and community environments. This initiative was presented to the Municipal School Council, with the active participation of municipal psychologist Eduardo Cabrera, school principals and heads of studies, as well as First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal and the municipal technical team. During the meeting, the importance of teacher involvement in the program's effective implementation was emphasized.

 

The project is part of an agreement between the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and the Official College of Psychologists of Las Palmas, valid until 2027 and endowed with €180.000 distributed over three years. This collaboration responds to warnings issued by the World Health Organization regarding the increase in mental disorders among young people, which identifies suicide as the third leading cause of death among adolescents aged 15 to 29. More than 1.100 adolescentsStudents, along with their families and teachers, will actively participate in this plan, which also has the ethical and mixed (quantitative-qualitative) methodological support endorsed by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The results will allow for the design of a robust and comprehensive model to strengthen youth mental health in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, positioning the municipality as a leader in local policies to prevent adolescent suicide and promote emotional well-being.
