Alejandro Marichal: “We celebrate the talent that sustains our destiny and makes Maspalomas an international benchmark.”

Yilenia Vega: “Bringing live training to the Maspalomas Lighthouse strengthens the essence of our destination.”

The Maspalomas Lighthouse was transformed into a unique culinary setting this afternoon with the celebration of the showcooking “The Origin of Flavor”, one of the highlights of the XII International Tourism Forum Maspalomas Costa Canaria 2025. The event, open to the public and held outdoors, brought together gastronomy, local produce and innovation in an emblematic setting of the municipality.

The session featured renowned chef Pepa Muñoz, from the Madrid restaurant El Qüenco de Pepa—a Repsol Sun award winner—who prepared the dish “Puff Pastry with Sardines, Fruits, and Island Flavors.” This creation showcased ingredients such as sardines, ripe mango, watercress, tomatoes, lemon, and local spices, combining contemporary techniques with traditional roots. The recipe stood out for its balance between the freshness of the fruit, the intensity of the sea, and a meticulous presentation that incorporated crisp textures and citrus notes.

Next, the prestigious mixologist Matteo Ciarpaglini, representative of Club Paradiso —Best Bar in the World 2022—, offered a creative demonstration with three proposals: Maspalomas Sunset Sprits, Maní Fashion and Meloneras Negroni, three combinations that surprised the public for their freshness, their aesthetics and their evocation of the Atlantic character of the destination.

The event was hosted by communicator Cathaysa González, who accompanied the audience throughout the preparations, providing context, rhythm, a lot of friendliness and dynamism to the session, thus reinforcing the informative character of the showcooking.

The Councillor for Tourism, Yilenia Vega, highlighted that this edition of the forum “reinforces the essence of the destination through the people who make it possible every day. Promoting live training in an emblematic space like the Maspalomas Lighthouse allows us to link tourism with the local community and strengthen the essence of Maspalomas as a destination.”

For his part, the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, emphasized the human dimension that marks this year's focus: "This forum is a celebration of the talent that sustains our destiny, an opportunity to recognize those who make it possible for Maspalomas to be an international benchmark in hospitality."

“The origin of flavor” is part of the practical program with which the Maspalomas Costa Canaria 2025 International Tourism Forum asserts the human value of hospitality and the importance of gastronomic creativity as a distinctive hallmark of the destination.
