The Department of Culture, led by Deputy Mayor Elena Álamo Vega and coordinated by Councillor Esther Delgado Sánchez, is offering a free workshop this Thursday and Friday, November 20th and 21st, on guiding minors in the safe and responsible use of the Internet and new technologies.
The eight-hour in-person workshop will be led by specialists from the Universidad Popular del Sur in the conference room of the Maspalomas Cultural Center, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is aimed at adults concerned about children's and teenagers' use of the internet and social media.
“The aim of this free training is to help promote responsible and healthy use of technology within the family environment,” says Esther Delgado. Those wishing to participate should register at https://www.upcanarias.com/yo-tambien-en-la-red-up-del.../
Under the title 'I too...accompany a minor on the net', the course-workshop will teach the tools and resources for digital accompaniment of minors, how to implement parental controls and manage digital identity, how to identify and act against threats such as cyberbullying, sexting or data theft, and how to establish criteria for responsible use to promote a healthy balance between online and offline life.
“This is a practical and accessible training for families, educators and people who want to accompany minors in their digital life and create safe digital habits, especially in terms of personal digital security,” says Esther Delgado.
Strategies for good use
The practical content of this course-workshop is divided into three modules. The first, dedicated to strategies for guiding the responsible use of technology, will address setting healthy boundaries, prevention in the digital environment, and effective communication about technology use. The second, on the effects of technology on health, will focus on the effects of technology on physical health, the emotional impact of technology use on children and family life, and managing technology-related stress in children. The third, dedicated to a ten-point guide for responsible digital use, will cover good digital practices for families, resolving digital conflicts within the family, and creating and evaluating a family digital guide.
