The tattoos proved crucial in identifying the perpetrator
The Civil Guard of Puerto Rico-Mogán arrested a man on October 30th accused of two counts of robbery with force and one count of theft, following an investigation that clarified three incidents committed between September and October 2025.
The first theft occurred between September 5th and 9th, when wood, plywood, and a miter saw, valued at €6.617,45, were stolen from a construction site. The second theft took place on September 20th. On that occasion, the perpetrators cut through the perimeter fence to gain access to the premises and stole 100 carpets—rented from a company—and a camera with a memory card, with a total value of €6.256,18.
The latest theft occurred on October 24th, when the perpetrator scaled a wall approximately 2,5 meters high and stole a solar panel valued at 49 euros. In total, the stolen goods from the three robberies amount to 12.922,63 euros.
The investigation, carried out by the Civil Guard's Investigation Unit in Puerto Rico-Mogán, focused on analyzing security camera footage provided by the complainant. In the first burglary, the perpetrator's hand and forearm were partially captured on camera, while in the third, the cameras clearly recorded an individual climbing the perimeter fence.
Comparing the two recordings allowed investigators to identify the suspect thanks to the matching visible tattoos, which served as a key piece of evidence. Full identification was confirmed through an analysis of his physical features and the clothing he was wearing—a fanny pack, the same pants, and shoes that appeared in the images—which conclusively linked the same person to all three incidents under investigation.
The detainee, a habitual offender in the area with a history of similar crimes, was brought before the court after his arrest.
From a criminological point of view, this type of theft of material from
Construction work causes damage that goes beyond economic value. In addition to replacement costs, it causes delays in the work and forces companies to reinforce their safety measures.
The Civil Guard emphasizes the importance of reporting and citizen collaboration, factors that, together with the use of technological tools and forensic image analysis, are essential to combat crimes against property.
