On Wednesday night, Andrés Fermoso Labra passed away. He was a key figure in the corporate development of the Lopesan Group and one of the most respected professionals in the Canary Islands tourism sector. Born in Zamora in 1955, he arrived in Gran Canaria in the 1980s as a National Police officer, a posting that would eventually become his permanent home and the starting point of a public and private career marked by integrity, discretion, and rigor.
His time in local politics in San Bartolomé de Tirajana with AV allowed him to understand the needs of a municipality that was then experiencing rapid growth and seeking to modernize its infrastructure. This local knowledge, combined with his legal background, led him to the Lopesan Group in 1995, where he began a corporate career that, three decades later, is an integral part of the company's recent history. In his role as corporate advisor for the Legal Department, Fermoso was the quiet architect of strategic decisions that supported the group's international growth, ensuring legal certainty, stability, and a long-term vision for one of the Canary Islands' key economic drivers.
Those who worked with him describe him as a man of precise analysis, composed judgment, and absolute professional loyalty. He never sought the limelight or the spotlight; his influence was evident in the efficiency of processes, the trust he inspired, and his ability to transform the complex regulations of tourism into a clear and secure environment. The company has recently highlighted his “impeccable rigor,” his “strategic vision,” and the legacy of commitment he leaves within the organization he helped to build.
Fermoso belonged to that generation of professionals who made the transformation of tourism in Gran Canaria their life's work. His death leaves a profound void both in his family and in the business community that for decades looked to him as a role model. What remains, as with truly essential figures, is the most difficult thing to replace: his approach to work, his composure, and the certainty that, for him, serving with integrity was always a daily task.
