The company, which has been part of this platform since 2018, has carried out several initiatives during 2025 in the areas of sustainability, culture, sportsmanship and support for local products.
SPAR Gran Canaria participated last Tuesday, November 11, in the event for the joining of new companies to the Canary Islands Network of Corporate Social Responsibility, held at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The supermarket chain's participation in the event welcoming new businesses reinforces its role as a key player in promoting better living conditions in the Canary Islands community. Furthermore, it consolidates its commitment to this platform, which it has been a member of since 2018.
The event, presided over by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Francisco Candil, welcomed a total of twenty-one new entities from the technology, healthcare, education, and social sectors. The network now comprises 275 member organizations.
With over 39 years of history on the island, SPAR Gran Canaria has made corporate social responsibility a fundamental pillar of its daily operations. Throughout 2025, the company has been strengthening its commitment to various causes, from sustainable development and support for Canarian culture and traditions, to promoting sports and local products.

Social actions
As patrons of the Forest FoundationSPAR Gran Canaria is contributing to the reforestation and conservation of the island's forests to protect its diverse landscapes and mitigate the effects of climate change. In 2024, the company planted 200 trees in collaboration with this organization, which will help reduce CO02 emissions by approximately two tons annually over the next 30 years. These trees also contribute to the recharge of the island's aquifers.
Furthermore, it collaborates with local cultural and artistic organizations to preserve the island's identity and supports sports initiatives that promote healthy activity and social cohesion, from women's sports to Canarian wrestling and grassroots football. These initiatives include various sponsorships across different disciplines and cultural collaborations, such as with Los Gofiones, the Museo Canario, and Barrios Orquestados.
Their support for local produce is also reflected in their collaborative agreements with farmers and producers on the island: these include the agreement for tomatoes from La Aldea, now in its fifth consecutive year; the agreement for apples from Valleseco, for the fourth year; the agreement for local potatoes from several municipalities in Gran Canaria, reaching a significant milestone after fifteen consecutive years; and the agreement for oranges from Telde, now in its twelfth year. Through these agreements, they promote the circular economy, fostering long-term projects that strengthen local production.
The company also highlights the creation of stable employment, professional development opportunities, and corporate benefits enjoyed by its staff, who are encouraged to adopt healthy habits to reinforce team well-being.
Furthermore, through its people-centered corporate culture, SPAR Gran Canaria It promotes continuing education with over 3.000 hours and more than 400 training activities per year. New this year is the SPAR Gran Canaria Scholarship Plan for the 2025–2026 academic year, aimed at employees with children under 23 enrolled in public and state-subsidized schools, thus strengthening educational and learning support for families.
All these actions are aligned with the UN's 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals, with which SPAR Gran Canaria actively works to build a fairer and more sustainable island.
The company's integration into the Canary Islands Corporate Social Responsibility Network for more than seven years demonstrates its commitment to community well-being and consolidates its role as an active agent in the social, economic and environmental fabric of Gran Canaria.
