Alejandro Marichal: “We are taking a firm step towards the comprehensive improvement of the cleaning service, guaranteeing a cleaner, more cared for and sustainable environment for our municipality.”
Ruyman Cardoso: “The new team will carry out interventions in scattered neighborhoods, trails, access points and natural areas, removing waste, improving the conservation of spaces and recovering deteriorated environments.”
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council's Department of Cleaning will submit the collaboration agreement with the Foresta Foundation for approval at the next Ordinary Plenary Session, to be held on Thursday, November 27. This initiative will allow for the implementation of an extraordinary cleaning and conservation program in the municipality. Thanks to this agreement, twenty unemployed residents of the municipality will be hired to form a specialized team responsible for working on trails, paths, rural access roads, scattered neighborhoods, and natural areas, reinforcing the municipality's capacity to intervene in areas where manual labor is essential.
The First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, emphasized that this agreement represents a further step forward in the municipal strategy aimed at improving the cleanliness of the municipality and generating local employment. “When we sign this agreement, we will be responding to one of the most important demands of our citizens, and we are doing so by linking it to the creation of job opportunities for our people,” stated Marichal, highlighting the dual social and environmental impact of this initiative.
The Councilor for Cleaning, Ruymán Cardoso, explained that “the new team will carry out ongoing work in outlying neighborhoods, along trails, access roads, and in natural areas, removing plant debris, improving the upkeep of these spaces, and restoring deteriorated environments.” He added that the project will guarantee regular and planned maintenance of these areas, allowing for faster and more effective action in places where cleaning requires specialized personnel.
The agreement stipulates that the Foresta Foundation will hire twenty people from the municipality, distributed across operational and technical profiles, who will carry out their work for nineteen months, until June 2027. This proposal is in addition to other actions that the Cleaning Department is promoting to comprehensively strengthen the service throughout the municipality.
Among these initiatives, the new selective waste collection contract stands out. Awarded to Ayagaures Medioambiente SLU for nearly €4,9 million until 2028, it includes the installation of 560 new containers and the incorporation of a renewed and more efficient fleet, which will increase collection capacity by almost 50% and optimize service in all neighborhoods. In addition, 41 solar-powered self-compacting litter bins will soon be installed at various points along the coast, reinforcing cleanliness in the busiest areas. Furthermore, an investment of over €300.000 is underway for the construction and modernization of facilities for self-compacting bins and collection points for municipal solid waste and selective waste, with the aim of organizing them, making them more accessible, and preventing illegal dumping.
With all these measures, Alejandro Marichal emphasizes, “we are taking a firm step with the commitment to modernize and comprehensively improve the cleaning service, reinforcing the municipal capacity to respond to one of the main citizen demands and guaranteeing a cleaner, more cared for and sustainable environment in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.”
