The film project launched by the Department of Culture last April has offered a free film each month. The 2025 cycle will conclude with 'Madame Clicquot, the Grand Dame of Champagne' by Thomas Napper.

The Butaca 24 Cinema project, run by the Department of Culture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, is offering a free screening of the film 'Rita' this Wednesday, November 26th. It will take place at 19:00 PM at the Maspalomas Cultural Center.

The film, written and directed as Paz Vega's debut feature, is a drama that celebrates childhood, dreams, and the power of imagination, but also a powerful denunciation of the abuse and gender-based violence prevalent in 80s Spain. It runs for 94 minutes and premiered on August 16, 2024, at the Locarno Film Festival, before being released in Spain at the end of October of the same year.

The film, with a cost of 2 million euros and produced by Aralán Films, stars Sofía Allepuz (Rita), Alejandro Escamilla (Lolo), Paz Vega (Mari), Roberto Álamo (José Manuel), Daniel Navarro (Nito), Paz de Alarcón (Chari), Amanda Santos (Tita Merche) and Margarita Asquerino (Grandma Carmen).

Actress and director Paz Vega (Seville, 1976) won the Goya Award and the Chopard Trophy at Cannes for her performance in 'Lucía y el sexo' (2001). Throughout her film career, she has worked with prestigious directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Álex de la Iglesia, James L. Brooks, the Taviani brothers, and Danis Tanovic, among others, and has shared the screen with stars like Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Antonio Banderas, and Sylvester Stallone.
