The South strengthens labor protection: Asepeyo Maspalomas brings advice to companies

YURENA VEGA - M24H Saturday, November 29, 2025

The Asepeyo healthcare center in Maspalomas has conducted practical workshops this November for its employees to clarify access to essential benefits, such as pregnancy risk allowances and allowances for the care of children with cancer, reinforcing its commitment to social protection within the southern Gran Canaria labor market. In an effort to foster "more informed and protected work environments," the Asepeyo healthcare center in Maspalomas, under the direction of Yanis J. Costa Abad, held a crucial training workshop this week on Social Security benefits.

The session focused on two subsidies of high social sensitivity and practical relevance: the pregnancy risk subsidy and the benefit for the care of a child affected by cancer or serious illnesses. According to Costa Abad, the training had a dual objective: to clarify procedures and resolve "real doubts" so that the Asepeyo team can offer ongoing, "rigorous, humane, and personalized" advice to the professionals and companies that need it.

Asepeyo's initiative is especially important in the context of southern Gran Canaria, where the tourism sector dominates the labor market. Employment figures for Gran Canaria show that the Accommodation Services (26.275 members) and Food and Beverage Services (28.705 members) sectors are the main sources of employment.

With over 78.205 members in the island's tourism sector (a 4,83% year-on-year increase in October 2025), ensuring proper guidance on social protection rights and benefits is crucial for workforce stability. Asepeyo's efforts to ensure its employees accurately manage risk and care benefits strengthen the social safety net for a workforce that is key to the island's economy. The session, described as "highly participatory," is part of the healthcare center's strategy to ensure that the most sensitive social information is useful and accessible in a high-demand employment environment.
