The Perchel Beach Club brought together four professionals from the tourism and sports sectors to discuss the international projection of Gran Canaria
The International Skal Club of Gran Canaria and the Gran Canaria Center for Initiatives and Tourism, through their presidents Armando Mayor and Manuel Florido, held a new meeting focused on the current position of the island in the field of sports, health and wellness tourism.
The event, which took place at the Perchel Beach Club in southern Gran Canaria, was attended by four professionals from the tourism and sports sectors, as well as those with responsibilities in the public sector: Ángel Sabroso, Deputy Minister of Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands; Michael Lund, CEO & Managing Director of Servatur Hotels & Resorts; Daniel González, CEO of DG Eventos; and former professional cyclist Beñat Intxausti, Manager Riders in A&J All Sports Agency. They analyzed the opportunities, the impact on the local economy, and the international projection of Gran Canaria as a sports tourism destination.

The event, moderated by journalist Aída Martínez, highlighted how Gran Canaria boasts an exceptional natural base for year-round outdoor sports, thanks to its climate, unlike other European destinations where the arrival of winter limits these activities. Furthermore, the island offers top-tier accommodation and hosts well-established sporting events on the annual calendar, such as the Transgrancanaria race and the World Windsurfing Championship events, which receive significant support from public authorities.
The territory and orography of Gran Canaria allow for expanding the sports offer and diversifying the visitor profile, which has a higher average expenditure than the conventional tourist.
An example of this commitment to establishing a product among the local population is Gran Canaria 365, taking place this week, with 22 top-level professional cyclists riding around the island. Among them are the current world champion and four-time world champion, Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, along with other world champions such as Magdeleine Vallières and Ricardo Ten. Gran Canaria 365 will culminate next Sunday, the 30th, with the participation of 800 cyclists in the TE Gran Fondo Pico de las Nieves.
The event was sponsored by Enairgy, a company specializing in air conditioning, heating, extraction and ventilation, and Panasonic, as well as the collaboration of Corsua, a company specializing in the distribution, sale and installation of artificial turf, AVANTE Medios and Perchel Beach Club of the Cordial Hotels & Resorts group.
