The update released this Saturday, November 29, 2025, indicates that there are no active fires at sea, although debris has been collected in hard-to-reach areas. Authorities continue monitoring and coordinating efforts to ensure an effective response to any incidents.
The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands updated this Saturday, November 29, 2025, the situation of the Territorial Emergency Plan of Civil Protection of the Canary Islands (PLATECA), maintaining the alert for an episode of marine pollution limited to the coast of the municipality of Telde.
The review carried out from 14:00 PM onwards confirms that the marine pollution incident, caused by a spill of decomposing organic matter, no longer presents an active source in the sea. However, traces of the spill have been found in hard-to-reach coastal areas of Agüimes, where they were removed with machinery, as well as the presence and collection of similar material on the Telde coastline.
Reconnaissance flights conducted yesterday afternoon and this morning over the coast of Gran Canaria have not detected any visible suspended debris, indicating a favorable evolution of the situation. Despite this, the Government is maintaining the PLATECA alert status in Telde to ensure monitoring, coordination between administrations, and the management of any resulting incidents.
Activating PLATECA strengthens civil protection mechanisms and ensures an effective response to marine pollution incidents. The Directorate General of Emergencies will continue to provide updates on developments and ongoing actions through the official channels of the Government of the Canary Islands.
