Lopesan wants to drill four wells for the Villa del Conde hotel in Meloneras

GARA HERNÁNDEZ - M24H Monday, December 01, 2025

The Gran Canaria Island Water Council has opened for public comment the application submitted by Megahotel Faro SL to carry out a seawater intake and discharge project associated with the Hotel Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso complex, one of the most prestigious establishments in Meloneras. The initiative involves drilling two indirect intake wells and two discharge wells, located on the southern coast of the municipality.

The initiative joins other recent actions to modernize hydraulic infrastructure linked to the hotel sector in the south of Gran Canaria, an area where water sustainability is one of the structural challenges of the tourist destination.

According to the announcement posted on the Gran Canaria Island Council's notice board, the application was submitted by Pablo Lorenzo on behalf of the hotel company. The project locates the construction work in the Meloneras area, with four georeferenced points at an altitude of 16 meters, very close to the coastline and the tourist area where the municipality's largest hotels are concentrated.

The project is part of the infrastructure needed to supply the thalassotherapy and water renewal services of the complex, in an environment where tourist pressure forces the use of its own solutions for the collection and treatment of seawater to guarantee the operability of the wellness and spa facilities.

The Island Water Council reminds the public that, in compliance with the Canary Islands Public Water Domain Regulations, the file will be available for public review for 20 days from its publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC). During this period, any individual or legal entity may consult the documentation or submit comments at the Resources Office, located on Avenida Juan XXIII in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The announcement is signed by the Vice President of the Island Water Council, Miguel Hidalgo, by virtue of presidential delegation.
