The south of Gran Canaria, renowned for its tourism, is also establishing itself as a hub for advanced training in wellness and pedagogy, attracting European professionals through specialized programs such as the Spatia Teacher Academy. Therapist and trainer Silvia López Bech recently concluded a "truly transformative week" in Maspalomas, where 16 educators from Germany, Belgium, and Italy participated in an intensive workshop focused on mindfulness and teacher resilience.
The program emphasized the integration of mindfulness, emotional management, and body practices as fundamental tools for creating more innovative and compassionate school environments, in line with the pedagogical demands of the 21st century.
The choice of Maspalomas was no accident. The program used the area's natural environment as a dynamic classroom: mindful practices took place from the Dunes at dawn to the calm of the ocean, complemented by excursions to Barranco de las Vacas and Puerto de Mogán. This combination of elite technical training with a wellness environment is a growing trend in business and training tourism.
The curriculum ranged from mindful movement, breathing techniques, and emotional coaching to creative storytelling and outdoor education. The training, presumably part of mobility programs like Erasmus+, underscores how the Canary Islands' tourism infrastructure is diversifying to accommodate projects of high intellectual and personal value.
López Bech highlighted the commitment and openness of the participants, who described the course as "supportive, stimulating, empathetic, and transformative." The initiative's success reflects the European demand for effective strategies for managing teacher stress and fostering team cohesion within education systems. Maspalomas's ability to offer a space for disconnection and intensive learning, away from the pressures of urban environments, reinforces Gran Canaria's position as a laboratory of well-being and educational excellence—an asset that adds a new layer of value to its economic proposition.
